The Wonder of Being a Child

We woke up this morning to something really special, a video our kids posted on facebook of their newborn sitting up and playing.  She is only about three months old and is making fast progress but her little head was wobbling some as the neck is not as strong as, Lord willing, it will be soon.  She was trying to put her hands in her mouth as babies often do, but it was a joy to watch her progress and see just where she is right now.  She obviously can’t speak out to the camera and say, “Hi Grandma and Grandpa” but we thoroughly enjoyed seeing her just as she is !

Makes me wonder how God looks at us too !  He sees us just as we are too, with all our warts and faults, all our sins and yet He loves us as His own !   We have started to look at Ephesians in our church on Sunday mornings and part of the message tomorrow speaks of our adoption as God’s child once we are born again.  Paul wrote, “Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will.” (1:5).   Of course He is deeply pained when we err as Paul would go on to say in 4:30, “And grieve not (or as the Greek says here “Stop grieving the Holy Spirit of God”) the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”

A few quick things to encourage you here.  One is that once saved, God places you in the position as His very child (despite your sin) !!  It is His good pleasure to do so, just as you are !  Next, like those Ephesians believers, we too stumble at times and our perfect Father is pained. Someone once said your children can caur you the greatest joy and also the greatest pain at times. Why? Because they are you children and you love them so !  But, thankfully, even when we do falter, We are still His which is what that idea of being sealed means !!  Businessmen in Paul’s day would make a larger purchase of some good and pay a down payment or not be able right then and there to transport what they bought until they could get it shipped back so the seller would put on the thing a seal designating that as the purchaser’s and no one else could mess with it.  Ever see something similar in a furniture store or car lot (a big sign on it  saying “SOLD”) !!  We are bought with a great price at the cross once saved and you are God’s child and He is thrilled about you, with all your flaws and imperfections. Sure He desires you to grow just as we anticipate our granddaughter to progress, but it’s a new day, He’s still excited to see you,  YOU are HIS CHILD. So let Him talk to you through His Word and hear you breathe some prayers to Him and just talk to Him through the course of the day and maybe say to Him “I love you Father !”
