Let God spell it out to YOU

Whenever we get to “dog sit” our kids’ Maggie we find, like they, that around her it is often necessary to spell certain words when communicating with each other or she will spazz !  We cannot say “walk” or “puppy” or “Rudy” (the next door neighbor’s dog) or she will go nuts.  So we veil our communication to avoid the incessant barking and excitement a one year old puppy can exude.

Now while it’s true God does not reveal certain things to us it is also true that those things that He has, He wants us to comprehend very clearly.  This is one of the major ministries of the Holy Spirit in us once we are born again.  Note what Paul writes about this: “Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.” (1Cor.2:12).   In my first year as a Christian I recall reading a little book that informed me that before I even started to read in my Bible I ought to pray and ask God to help me to understand what I was about to read. And you know what? It helped !!   I began to see ways it applied to my life, I started to see what it meant in a way I never had before thanks to the Spirit of God !  Paul also touched on this in other places too like to the Ephesians: “. . . may be able to comprehend with all saints, what  is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ. . . ”  (3:18-19).

Oh there will always be passages that perplex us here. There will be places you read now and won’t make sense until a later reading (like He’s saving it for just when you need it) but by and large you will be surprised when you simply ask the Lord to open up your understanding to the Word just how much it can actually help.  Try it before a sermon as you await the start of the next service.  Ask the Lord to quiet your heart, to focus better on His Word and see applications you need to see.  But be prepared for God to communicate to YOU !  And when He does, its exciting to say the least – just don’t start barking like Maggie !!
