A Labor of Love after Labor day

Well, the holiday is past us, school is back in session, work goes on !  Most of us are back into settled routines, learning, working, serving, and life goes on. As we resume our labors after Labor day, it’s good to be reminded of our impetus for our labors: glorifying the Lord !   Such verses as 1 Cor.10:31, “Whether therefore ye eat or drink, or whatosoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” or  Col.3:17, “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.”

It is easy to get settled into our routines rather than do what we do truly FOR Him.  I find if my mind is stayed on Him, it becomes more common to put forth the efforts not just to get the job done, but to do it well thinking of Him and in His strength.  Not long after I was born again, one of the things I noticed improving was  going that extra mile, endeavoring to do my best, whatever the task was. I was working at this country general store and one of the things we sold was gasoline.  As I filled up someone’s tank, my employer had told me to wash their windshield.  God worked on my heart to not just walk one mile but two, so I did the rear windows and head and taillights  too !  I say not this to brag, I would not have done it if not for the Lord in my heart, He gets all bragging rights.

But the older we get, there is that tempation to just do the “same ole, same ole” in our efforts. Remember, those “work” verses and remember the effort He put forth to save you and still does to intercede in heaven before the Throne for you !  And remember, someone is likely watching your testimony as a believer, you can actually be a good “evangelist” even in your work, so go at it today as a labor of love for the Lord and in time great rewards will come !!
