Lift your head high today !!

Yesterday I  spent a little of the afternoon doing a Bible study with a young man and we came across an interesting verse that’s easy to just skim over fast but has great blessing when you meditate for a bit on it.  It’s in Acts 1:13, “And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.”   For many of us who have been saved a while and been taught well in our churches this is a simple verse to explain and understand but for a person new to the faith it can, like many verses, be an enigma.  “Who were all these guys?” was his sincere question.

So I spent a little time explaining who they were, why they were in this upper room, and what they went through.  As I did, I couldn’t help but recall them. Their lives.  I told my new friend, all these men died for their faith in Christ with the exception of one: John (who was boiled in oil by those trying to kill him but they did not succeed in their wickedness).  ALL these men faced incredible adversity, pain and suffering – and ALL stood tall believing that God is God, that all trials are temporal and God is our shield and reward !  They persisted believing and living, then dying well just as our Savior did !!

Their legacy is spiritually rich. It is a sterling example of how we need to live and one day, if God desires, how we also die – ever faithful to the great calling we have as children of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  Lift your head high today, for YOU are royalty, you are capable as these men to endure and press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Phil.3:14) for YOU have the same Spirit in you as they did !  You too, are building a legacy, with the Lord governing your mind, you also will leave a great one for Him and others to see !
