The precious gift of life

Growing up on a farm I recall witnessing several live births of different animals: kittens, puppies, calves, colts, etc.  But I never saw a dolphin birth (how many farms do you know have dolphins? HA). Anyway, watch one here and enjoy:  http://www.theblaze.com/stories/dolphin-gives-birth-to-calf-on-video-see-it-here/        Isn’t that cool to see?   Life is such a blessing from God !  I’ve been blogging about life some this week, humor me a little more today on the subject if you will.

The opening portions of Genesis reveal much to us of the start of life in the world, from the inception of the animal kingdom to the imparting of life in Adam by the Lord !  God merely spoke and the seas became filled with precious life, “Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life. . .” and the air, “. . .and fowl that may fly above in the open firmament of the heaven.” (Gen.1:20).  On day six (a literal 24 hour period for yom is the Hebrew word for day, a word only used for actual solar days, not extended eons of time) God culminated His creation by starting with land animals then his crowning creation was man !  This is so because man, in distinction from all the other life forms, was created in the image and likeness of God Himself, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. . . ” (1:26).

In chapter 2 we have a more detailed account of man’s origin as God tells us, “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” (vs.7).  One of the things I’ve told our church is that “Adam” in Hebrew means ground since that is where God took what He needed to form him, so as humans our name is “mud” ! Ha.  But seriously,  every moment of every day you exist is a special blessing from the Lord.  Sin seeks to snuff out life, righteousness gives life quality and in many cases quantity !

One of the things I have always hated as a dog owner is to see them die, the end of life is truly a sad thing.  But in Christ, we will live forever !!! And living for Him now we can experience abundant life which Jesus spoke of in the gospels.  But we must all make a choice as Moses stated towards the end Deuteronomy, “. .  .I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing, therefore choose life, that both you and thy seed may live. . . for He is thy life, and the length of thy days. . . ” (30:19,20).   The obvious choice to obey the Lord and enjoy life is a no brainer but our warped, sin tainted brains can fall for temptation, rationalizing sin, choosing the easy rather than the right way.   Well, today you will have choices to make, make the ones that promote life and enjoy the life which God has blessed you so graciously with and glorify Him !! And remember, just as we can watch a live birth, someone else may be watching your life too, so live well !!!!
