Get Real

“A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.” so said Solomon in Prov.19:9.  Honesty, its a waning virtue in our society and sadly many times amongst even God’s people.  Politicians do it and get away with it (at least for now), businessmen lie just to make a sale, all walks of life struggle with being honest due to the fact that we are all sinners.

But what is truly remarkable is that God, Who is the Way the TRUTH, and the Life, can take a lying sinner and transform us into a truthing saint ! And when we allow Him to do so, you better believe we stand out amongst the crowd in this deceptive world. I could go into all the different shades of deception we engage in in-depth such as the making of excuses, fudging on the details to make yourself look better, slander of someone to make them look worse,  flattery which is not genuine to curry favor for oneself, or omitting certain details to damage someone’s reputation like the first mate who’d been disciplined by his sea captain for an infraction and to get back at him he saw his chance when his superior was sick one day. He entered this in his captain’s log, “Captain sober today”.  True, he was, but the implication was based in falsehood.  Yes, we can come up with a lot of ways in which to lie but there is only one remedy for undoing them all and it is highly effective, namely to know and walk with He Who is Truth !

The writer of Hebrews said its impossible for God to lie (6:18) !  Paul wrote in Eph.4:25 that we need to be “putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor”    God calls us all to this practice and this is radical in our ever declining, falsehood loving world.  But the mouth which speaks with integrity will be a powerful instrument for the Lord.   Ten verses prior to the one I just cited, Paul wrote a powerful admonition that we must “speak the truth in love” and the language he wrote it in means it can and must come forth continuously from us as we submit ourselves to the Lord.    David sought help in this by praying this and we do well to mimic him on: “Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.” (Ps.141:3).

If you allow the Lord to change your heart daily and seek His help through prayer to tell the truth you will make a dynamic impact on folks around you, they will begin to see integrity incarnate in your life !!   Be real !!!
