A Solid Foundation

Just a few days ago an entire wedding party in Michigan were posing for pictures on a make-shift dock that stretched out slightly over Gun Lake.  Suddenly they all found themselves in Gun Lake !  Fortunately no one was hurt, and they all had a good chuckle about it.  The bride said she “came up laughing” !!

What isn’t so funny is when people put their confidence in just as shaky yet more dangerous things than a flimsy make-shift dock. Obviously when people trust in themselves, their “good works”, money, influence, family ties, etc. to achieve heaven rather than Jesus Christ Who stated very clearly “I am THE Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes unto the Father, but by Me.” (Jn.14:6).  Or how about when we seek to live the Christian life in our own strength, just chugging along day after day without the vital connection to the Lord essential to truly grow and live for Him. So we sporadically read the Word and aren’t renewed (Rom.12:2), we ignore and excuse our sins rather than confess them and stay right with Him and others (1Jn.1:9)?    Jesus again made no bones about the fact we need Him to live right, “I am the Vine, ye are the branches; He that abides in Me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for without Me ye can do nothing.”  (Jn.15:5).

Yet thankfully, we have a more sure foundation !  We have a God Who will never let us down and Who’s Word is tried and true. Stand on the Word today in all your decisions and doings and as you do you can be confident He will keep you from falling and collapse. Whatever you may be facing, stand on the principles of His Word, He will hold you up !! Read it, believe it, do it and you will stand just fine !!
