A Storehouse of Truth

I got a call yesterday from a woman who was concerned about her mom spiritually. Her mom now has dementia so her mind isn’t quite what it was just a short time ago. She wanted to know if I thought her mom was truly going to heaven.  I’d met her mom maybe a year or so ago and had given her the gospel and only a few months ago she accepted Christ as her Savior.  Since her mother is slipping mentally she was concerned, did she truly get saved?   So I sought to assure her that I wouldn’t have prayed with her if I didn’t think she understood it and wanted to do it and if a person does really become born again there will be certain indications in the new believer’s life.

Much of what I’d tried to comfort the daughter with was in the book of 1 John.  In fact the key verse in that short but extremely  helpful book is in chapter five verse 13 where it says, “These things have I written unto you that believe on name of the Son of God; THAT YE MAY KNOW THAT YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”    God not only did what was needed to secure our entry into heaven but He left us with an ENTIRE book providing us with the comforting assurance now that we indeed are !

As I was thinking about this conversation it made me pause and think how that many times even as a believer we’re in a quandary about this or that, we worry, or are unsure  and all along God has set in His Word what we need to comfort us about ANYTHING. Its just up to us to read it and heed it !     “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Ps.46:1).     Are you in a pickle today about someone or something? Do you long for some peace of mind?  God has it, seek out what He’s said. And by the way, all those times you sit in church and listen or read the Bible in your home, your mind is building up a storehouse of truth that will help you and help you to help others in times of need as well, God’s good !!
