Thinking about the Lord

I want you to do a little thinking today. What is some truth you have thought about concerning God lately? Like, something that you read about Him in the Bible or something you heard in a sermon or perhaps elsewhere?  But some truth and how it has reminded, encouraged or focused you some how on the Lord.   There was a gathering atheists recently in Washington, DC (wait, is that so unusual? there are scads of government gatherings there !  Couldn’t resist !!) who met to give more exposure to their views and encourage other so-called atheists to come out in the open.  As I watched a TV reporter interview some of them I couldn’t help notice: (A) it was raining miserably where they were gathered outside, (B) there was a lot of bitterness in them, & (C) their answers to questions were so utterly foolish. One man was trying to explain how the universe came into being and it was so nonsensical it was downright laughable !

The trait of God that I was reminded of was “grace”. God is so gracious with us. The fact that He brought such conditions on this gathering weatherwise,  He is graciously trying to remind them just Who’s in charge.   And despite their bitterness, He still allows them to live and even blaspheme His name and their rejection of His Word leaves them to aimlessly wander for answers that make no sense. Yet He reveals His creation to them each  day as David wrote in Ps.19:1, “The heavens declare the glory of God” – they scream out to us to notice the handiwork of the Almighty !

Paul wrote to Titus, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to ALL men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world, looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ.” (2:11-13).   God’s grace extends to us all, atheist or Christian.  The grace that extends though to salvation is only for those who choose to believe in Christ. And for the atheist? One day he will believe, rest assured, yet God holds out His grace even to them that they might believe before its eternally too late.  In the meantime, we must be gracious like the Lord, even to those who are at odds with God, showing them kindness, love, mercy, etc.   Showing them Christ !       It’s good to focus your thinking on the Lord to help you be more like Him, to help draw others to Him.  So what have you been thinking of lately about God?  Put it into action for Him today !!
