My Dad turns 77 today. Wow, how time flies. I can still remember him as a hard working young man trying to get his welding business going strong and also farming over 250 acres and a lot of livestock to boot ! And chasing me and my brothers down with his belt undone ready to – He still keeps up pretty good at his age despite some health problems. The psalmist wrote, “. . .we spend our years as a tale that is told. The days of our years are threescore years and ten (70 years); and if by reason of strength, they be fourscore years (80 years), yet it is their strength, labor and sorrow: for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” (90:9-10). You’re doing well Pa !!
Our lives actually do “fly by”. Several people older than me confirm that the older you get the quicker time seems to fly. Verse four says, “For a thousand years in Thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.” God confirms the rapidity of time yet also notes He is “our dwelling place in all generations. . . from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God.: (vss.1-2) !!! What’s my point in all this? Your time in life here is also running by faster than you may realize and one day we will be older, if God wills so. But, and thankfully so, we will enjoy a lifetime beyond lifetime here that will never fly by ! All thanks to the Lord. When we were created we took on the likeness and image of God, even the unsaved, and part of that is that we’ll exist somewhere throughout eternity since God is eternal. That’s one reason its so important that folks hear the gospel, so that they can end up in heaven. And if you have been saved, make wise use of life, squander it not, invest it in eternity well. Keep eternities values in view because you are going on to eternal life !! So, Happy Birthday, Dad, love to both you and Mom and I’m glad we’ll enjoy a time when time together when life flies by no more !!
