Happy Valentines Day, Lord

Happy Valentines day !  I thought I’d share with you a few lines from kids on their ideas about love: “If falling in love is anything like learning how to spell, I don’t want to do it, it takes too long” – Glenn, age 7. ”        “My mother says to look for a man who’s kind. That’s what I’ll do, I’ll find someone who’s kinda tall and handsome.” – Carolyn, age 8.    “Love will find you, even if you are trying to hide from it. I been trying to hide from it since I was five, but the girls keep finding me !” – Dave, age 8.     Kids can sure be a hoot in how they think !!

I wonder what God thinks of our views on love?  Since He is the ultimate in maturity I would imagine that our thoughts, words and deeds are sometimes amusing to Him too.  And sometimes I would also wager to say they can be sad to Him as well. Our ideas about love, until we get to know the Lord, are largely shaped by our life experiences but fortunately His Word starts to reshape them. We mature as we grow in Christ, we begin to better understand what love is and all because of Him. The apostle of love, John, shared this about the Lord in his small epistle, First John:  “He that loves not knows not God; for God is love.” (4:8)  & “And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him.” (4:16). True love is an indicator of your relationship to God as John tells it, if we struggle with it, our closeness to Him is in question. Consequently, this informs us that the real key in loving people is found in loving Him !!

And how we come to love God is like to how we also do people, we get to know them, spend time with them, communicate honestly to them (by the way the greatest part of this being – LISTENING !!!), we share of ourselves and allow them the same (even our deepest thoughts, ideas, goals, dreams).  Today is Valentines Day and whether or not you have a special someone to share it with, you do, as a child of God, have the ultimate Person of Love, the embodiment and very essence of love in your Lord and Savior !!  Strive to love Him more today, have a good “conversation”,  He will enjoy the quality time spent with YOU because you are very special to Him !!
