Just about every Saturday we stop buy on our errands to frequent a produce stand run by some Amish folks in our area. There are lots of great fresh veggies and fruit and even some home baked goods to fatten a person up ! When you stop and think about it, isn’t it amazing all the wonderful things the Lord has for us to munch on and keep the bodies healthy? And there are so many different things too.
It’s no wonder the psalms remind us whence these things come from and how that we do well to take the time to think and then even verbalize our gratitude for all these blessings from on high ! “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits. . . Who satisifieth thy mouth with good things” (ps.103:2-5). David was saying so in the language with a sense of enthusiasm ! And “Remember His marvelous works that He hath done; His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth.” (Ps.105:5). I was telling our church recently that ancient Jews would not only pray before they dined but after so that it was implanted in their minds after their stomachs were full how God had provided. Maybe they recognized our tendency to take for granted the God Who cares for us so?
I like also what James wrote, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is FROM ABOVE, and cometh down from the FATHER of LIGHTS, with Whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” (Jas.1:17). How easy it is to “wolf down” that cheeseburger or gulp down an ice cold drink and fail to recall or thank a gracious providing God ! So when you reach for a snack this weekend think of His kindness to YOU. And it will bring joy to Him to genuinely and sincerely offer a word of thanks !
