Splat !

I was taking a family home last night after church and I noticed something I’ve seen many times before and I’m pretty sure you have also and that is the bugs that were attracted to the cars headlights.  What they fail to realize in their bug brains is that their curiosity often leads to a “fatal attraction” — Splat, bug brains !!   I hope you’re not eating right now !!

Anyway,  what possible analogy or spiritual truth can be, pardon the pun, “driven home”?  Well, what are you attracted to, really?  As a Christian with a sin nature still we need to take precautions that all that looks good to US may not to God.   Fortunately the child of God also has the Spirit of God within to avoid these “head on collisions” in life that we’d otherwise fly into were it not for Him and the discernment of the Word.

So what about that “special sale” where you can save?  How about that acquaintance that isn’t exactly the most spiritual of persons but is really fun to hang around?  How about that fascinating movie or book that, yes, has some things that  kinda “bug” us (ok, I’ll stop now — maybe) but for the most part is alright?  Maybe even a radio or TV preacher, or famous Christian author that is very dynamic? Catch my drift?

The Bible says, “Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord” (Eph.5:10) & “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”  (1 Jn.4:1).  We must be careful we don’t fall prey to the world’s idea of “tolerance” and fall for the glitz and bright lights, the soothing “positive” messages of the renowned preachers of our day without discerning, even them, from the searchlight of God’s Word. If the Bereans did Paul, shouldn’t we be noble and wise enough to do the same?   (Acts 17:11).  Paul warned us about such false teachers who maybe give out some truth but are false and said, “And no marvel: for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of LIGHT.”  (2Cor.11:14). The substance that glows in the lightning bug is called “luciferin” !   So all that glows is not so great and needs to be tested by the Bible !!!

The Scriptures are loaded with this idea of us being wise and not naive especially when it comes to the things of this old world.  There are plenty of believers whose bodies and lives have been splattered on the roadway of life due to being drawn in by the headlights of immorality, quick rich schemes, charismatic personalities, impulsive decisions, etc.

Fortunately, though the lights allure us so does the wisdom of God, “Wisdom cries without, she uttereth her voice in the streets. . .Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out My Spirit unto you, I will make known My words unto YOU.” (Prov.1:20-23).    Each time you read the Bible well you give God the opportunity to build in you the wisdom and discernment you need to be able to distinguish between what is lethal and the healthy opposite, life-giving !  So do not take “lightly”  that opportunity God allows you every day to pick up read, pray and make decisions based on what He’s already said in His Word !     Ok, one more, are you ready?  I hope this blog didn’t “bug” you too much, enjoy the day !!
