Be a Missionary

Two more days and it will be Sunday.  For many churchgoers it will be a time to see friends you worship with, serve in your special area of service, and listen carefully to the pastor’s message.  As the first day of the week draws nigh though let me challenge you to seriously pray for the services coming up and to pray that God would give you someone to invite to His house.  It’s always nice as a pastor to see new folks walk in but how much more it must be to the Lord when He sees His children doing what they can to get someone to come out as well.

I can imagine that as Peter preached that great sermon in Acts 2 and several hundred were saved and joined with the fledgling church that there was an exuberance about coming to church.  The congregation, we’re told, began to blossom in size and Dr. Luke reports, “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking bread, and in prayers.” (Acts 2:42)  and also, “And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.” (which is the actual Greek translation here in italics as opposed to the Calvinism injected by the KJV translators).    That same exuberance must be ours as well, not left behind in the first century !    None of us on our own are naturally enthused about the things of God but as we genuinely walk with Him, His desires and goals excite us and we then see and seize the opportunities He lays before us to witness and invite people to His house.    Don’t get comfortable in the routine of “just going to church”, be a missionary this week and ask God to lay a soul in your path and pray that person into His house so that they too can be impacted by the Word and the fellowship of His people !!
