Ahhh !!

All over America preparations are being made for Thanksgiving. The turkey is being thawed, the houses cleaned, the last minute items are purchased, etc.   And then the day and the time arrives to sit down and enjoy the feast. Ahhh !!  As a boy we spent a lot of family Thanksgivings at my paternal grandparent’s home. Yep, we’d go over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house, if you’re old enough to remember that song.  And Grandma would get up around four to pop the bird in the oven and peel the potatoes and such.  But as she and now we do all these things in anticipation of a fine thanksgiving meal, think about preparations for just a moment today.

Each day God is “peeling potatoes and stuffing the turkey,  He’s cleaning house”  in your life.  She doesn’t much like it, but our cat hates it when my wife gets the sweeper out, but it’s needful.  Every day the Lord is using circumstances, time, friends around you, events of life in hopes of molding you more into His image.  In fact an oft quoted verse by believers, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose” (Rom.8:28) is very helpful when trials occur but listen to the next verse.  “For whom he did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son. . .”.    I realize there is much debate about predestination, election, and the like but it seems clear enough to me here that what Paul meant was that it is God’s express desire to mold us into His image.

As life comes at you, your task is to live it in obedience to His Word. Because what gets in the way of good preparation  most often is a stubborn human will. So don’t “quench the Spirit” do what is right.  But when it’s all said and done we can all look back as we sit down to a feast with God one day and say “Ahhh !  All the preparation was worth it now !”  Thank you Lord for the preparations of life as we head towards the feast !
