Another Day !

I remember hearing a farmer years ago saying this expression: “Another day, another dollar.”  I believe his point was he didn’t make that much in his profession but a new day brought a new opportunity to advance, even if a little.  For the child of God, every day the Lord gives us must be looked at as filled with great opportunities but much more than a miniscule advancement.  Paul admonished his Ephesian brethren, to redeem the time because the days are evil (Eph.5:16) meaning buy up those opportunities God places in your path because time is running out here in our lives.

One of my favorite Christmas movies is “Its  A Wonderful Life” and what first got my attention in that story of George Bailey wishing he had never been born and his guardian angel granting his wish was thinking about the impact one life makes.   Even a wicked life leaves its mark on our world but how much more a righteous one does because Christ is at work through that life !  But when a believer is truly humble one of our tendencies is to think we’re not making much of a difference. We reason, we’re not as talented as most,we may not have great intellect, we’re not flashy in our personality, etc. so we conclude that our contribution in the whole scheme of things doesn’t stack up to very much.  Nothing could be farther from the truth though !  It’s precisely the humble godly life that makes the greatest mark !!

The people you live around, or work near, your church, your extended family, even in your own home can be affected for great good as you simply live for Christ.  And as you do you become more sensitive to making a difference for Christ and He shows in you.  Each day it is good to feed your mind with His Word and ask in prayer for God to help you be a good testimony and as the days elapse and God continues to mold you, you are leaving His imprint on others too !

Not long after I’d been saved a missionary I’d invited to stay with me for a few days in his travels gave me my first Greek book and in the first few pages he left a note of thanks for the hospitality shown him and wrote this verse: “Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” (Phil.1:6).  He was encouraging me to advance in my new Christian life.   Today is not just another day, it’s a day to advance and when you live it FOR Him the strides are always great, even if you don’t always see them so immediately.  Another day, another trophy for the King !!!
