The Family Tree

America is quite the “melting pot”. People have immigrated here from all over the world.  In our own area where our church is people can be met from all over the globe with Penn State in our backyard !  So, have you ever found out where your ancestors came from?  I remember as a boy asking my parents what country we came from and I concluded I’m a “mutt” ! There was Scotland, Germany, Ireland and the Reese side is primarily Welsh.  So if ever asked by people I tell them that I’m distantly related to Princess Diana of Wales.  Can’t they see the “good looks resemblance”?  As they strain a little harder to look and I hide a laugh then I lower the boom “tilt my head” like she used to and say “it’s the nose” !!  If you remember her it wasn’t ugly but it wasn’t small.  Anyway it’s fun to mess with people some !

The amazing thing about about being a real Christian is you have a fantastic lineage.  The Bible says, “For ye are all the children of God BY FAITH in Christ Jesus.” (Gal.3:26).  This rules out the liberal idea that everyone is in the family of God. I wish that were true but reality and religious liberalism are often at odds.  One is adopted into the family of God at conversion by sincerely asking the Lord’s forgiveness for your sinfulness and asking Him to be your Savior.

It used to be that churches of yesteryear used family language towards each other. They called each other “brother” or “sister”.  They were right to do so, as spiritually, true Christians have become related to one another by faith in Christ. So today, will you pray for your brother or will you help a sister in need?  And will you also remember that even if you’re a “mutt” that you hold your head high, not arrogantly but proudly, because you are a CHILD of GOD !   “For we have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but ye have received the Spirit of adoption whereby we cry Abba (the Aramaic for “Daddy”), Father”  (Rom.8:15) !!!   What a grand family will assemble one day in heaven !
