Hollywood or Holy Bible?

Last night Ty, our foster grandson, was debating the intricacies of Biblical inspiration with us. Huh? Yeah, we were watching him for his parents and reading him a story from the Bible which prompted a discussion (stall tactic to prolong the inevitable “bed time”).  He was very adamant about something from the Bible and I was at first wondering how he was so sure in his seven year old mind about something we can’t be so sure of since the Word of God doesn’t give us much info about the matter. “No, Grandpop, you’re wrong !” he insisted.  So I asked him, “And why are you so sure?”    His response, “I saw it that way in a movie !”   After a little chuckle I then grabbed at the teachable moment and snapped back, “Ty, what’s going to be right, the Bible or some movie ?”    Grandpop, one,  7 year old, zero !!  I’m sure he’ll try to even the score soon.

At any rate, it reminded me once again, the Bible really is our sole authority for faith and practice.  God has clearly said, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (2Tim.3:16-17).   What a blessing it is that whenever we have a question, or seek direction that if God has given us the answer on the matter, it is RIGHT, period !!   Why?  The Bible is inspired or as the word inspiration means in this passage, “God breathed”.  It has proceeded directly from Him, not some fabrication or opinion of a man. So, it’s profitable or beneficial for us so that we may learn and grow in the ways of God and yes even stand corrected as needed.  All with the goal God has for each of us as becoming mature in Him !

Enjoy having it to read today, it won’t ever steer you wrong. A Hollywood movie and truth, eh, not so much typically.  Enjoy the transformative effect the Bible can have on you even today settling your mind, helping you to see more from His perspective rather than man’s. Honing your mental processes so that when decisions come, your mind is governed not by your feelings, but His ! Giving you hope, help and peace in a world that has none of these quite frankly !!    Aren’t you grateful, like Jeremiah  we have this Word? He said, “Thy words were found and I did eat them; and Thy Word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of my heart. . . ” (Jer.15:16).  Feast on it today, friend !!  And while you do, why not tell God thanks you can !
