Looking Unto Jesus

This morning my wife and I were watching a video of our granddaughter mimicking her mom sticking out her tongue. That brought back memories as I recall doing that to our daughter after I’d read an article saying infants know more than we probably realize and their imitation of us begins very early (which can be frightful of itself !).  A friend of mine was watching our very young children in the foyer at church after a service one night and said, “I’ve been observing your children and learning a lot about you !”  Then he chuckled, thankfully !

When Paul wrote his friends at Thessalonica he said this, “And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord. . .” (1Thess.1:6). The word for followers is mimic in the English.  Paul prayerfully thanked God a few verses earlier for their “work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ” (vs.3).  The whole scenario should prod us to being godly examples for others to follow. We like to have a role model to look up to but as time goes on in your Christian life, the Lord expects you to be one  yourself !  Each day we have the opportunity to be just that as we trust God in everything, as we ask for His strength to live the day for Him and in time our life mimics His, not perfectly, but typically !    But like our little granddaughter you must be carefully looking to the One teaching you how you ought to act.  So make sure you take a little time today to do just that, get into the Bible and LOOK at Christ. Though your day may be busy, stay in touch with Him and ask Him for help in time of need or just a few moments of gratefulness expressed to Him but stay in touch !   If you blow it, confess it and stay in touch for as He taught us in Jn.15:5, “I am the Vine, YE are the branches; he that abides in Me and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for without Me ye can do nothing.”    The miracle of the growth of a child, either one of human parents or a Heavenly One is that we can grow and that originates with the parent-child connection.  Keep imitating Christ !!
