Rub them the right way

Seems every time about this year I run across a baby bird who hasn’t yet learned how to sprout his wings and use them. I was mowing our lawn and about ran over a baby blue jay. I stopped the mower to herd her to a safer area and as I stepped closer, a swarm of blue jays flew above me squawking as loud as they could !  They certainly rally around one of theirs in need !!

What a great lesson for us.  We’re so prone to just think about our little slice of life sometimes to see the troubles others are going through. And often this is probably not intentional, for when we see glaring trials most people with half a heart will seek to do what they can.  But mostly, we just motor through our life unconcerned and unaware of other’s struggles when we’re not growing as we ought because our primary focus is us.  So it’s a byproduct of self in charge rather than God.  Paul wrote to the Galatians (who had brought much trouble upon themselves) to “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (6:2).  Why did he have to command this??  Think about it !!

It was fascinating to hear the story recently of the older woman bus monitor who was insulted by kids on her bus and people have reached out in droves to her to help her retire by sending money to her.   There are people who will be moved by such atrocities, true, but one of the blessings of growing in Christ is to become even more aware of the folks in our path and their legitimate needs, to truly say more than “How are you?” and get to know them, talk to them, and be privileged to rub Christ off on them through our lives is indeed a wonderful blessing that gives back many fold !
