Maybe Today

There have been “date setters” about the return of Christ throughout the history of the church (the Muenster Kingdom in Europe around the time of the Middle Ages, the Adventist movement in the 1800’s in our nation, etc.) so Harold Camping is as Solomon would say “no new thing under the sun” !  Camping is the man whose erroneous interpretations of the Bible have attracted many folks’ attention this year. Some folks were duped spending a lot of money and giving up a lot of things to get Camping’s word out. Many who know their Bibles fairly well were quick to dismiss him and others mocked him and the whole idea of a rapture and end time judgment by the Lord.  If you haven’t heard, he now is proclaiming Oct.21 as the “go day” –  never mind the fact that he’s been wrong in 1994 and in May !

What we do know for certain is we don’t know the day. Yes, we base that on what Jesus told His disciples very clearly in Acts 1:7, “It is NOT FOR YOU to KNOW the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in His own power.”    But sometimes there’s a little Harold Camping in us all when we want to know more than He’s revealed. We want something extra, to be privy the latest juicy details.  And when you scope out the context of what Jesus says here, His men were wanting to know when He would set up the long anticipated Kingdom on earth.  He in so many words told them that it would come but your focus needs rather to be on DOING what I have told you to do now! So in verse 8 He reiterates the Great Commission, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses . . . ”

If we had our druthers most of us would have been raised to eat our dessert first. We like the gain without the pain, etc.  But truth is God still expects us to be His witnesses and bring folks out with us tomorrow to church. To stop playing church and start working at it !  And one reason is that the return of Christ could very well happen today !!!  And if it does, your direct influence here will be over and many you know will be catapulted into a world of real tribulation and turmoil the likes of which it has never seen before !  Do you really want that for those you say you love who arent as yet born again?

So false prophets aside, we need to stay focused on the facts and the great mission God has set out for us all as His dear children “for the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout. . . ” — Maybe today !!!
