Waiting to Hear from YOU !

Did you hear about what happened before the Penn State football game yesterday?  PRAYER !  If you missed it here it is:  http://www.theblaze.com/stories/after-week-of-scandal-and-shame-penn-state-community-bands-together-on-gameday/       My son and I were in attendance and I thought I’d never see that at Beaver Stadium !  It was heartening to see after all the events here this week.  I wonder what the ACLU will do about this? Ha !!

At any rate, isn’t it amazing that when we’re down we want to reach out to God?  We were, in fact, all created in the image and likeness of God and yes that is marred a good bit in humanity but still ALL those players and coaches agreed to come out to the middle of the field to pray !  The tragedy is sin has brought us to a point that for most people that’s about the only time we’ll reach out to Him.  But that is not God’s will. He desires we commune with Him in the good times as well as the bad times.

In Matt.6 we have what’s often referred to as the “Lord’s Prayer” but more accurately the “Pattern for Prayer” in that is wasn’t meant to be recited as a creed but referred to as a template to follow as we pray.  Remember it was the disciples who asked Him how to pray prompting His teaching this to them, “Lord, teach us to pray. . . ” Lk.11:1.

One of the teachings was that we pray, “Give us this day our DAILY bread.”  Life was much harder for Jews in Jesus’ day as to “three square meals”, so this made a lot of sense to them. But it should also make a lot of sense to us in that prayer is meant to be a regular part of our lives, not just when we “need” Him.   It should be as commonplace as eating, in point of fact !

It is wonderful we can, as believers, come boldy into the throne of grace with our petitions. So when you rise or when you are about to nod off to la la land, don’t forget to take a little time to talk to Him Who loves you immensely.  We used to enjoy hearing around the dinner table about our kids’ day.  Good parents are INTERESTED in those kind of things, He’s the PERFECT parent and  He’s waiting to hear from YOU !!
