A Schedule to Keep

Zoom !  Not long ago the CATA bus went by. Its the local bus service that covers our area. It has a schedule to keep, and though the speed limit is low here, the bus takes a little license with these posted limits to make its rounds on time. You also have schedules to keep, think about them for a moment.  There are things on your agenda you want to get done on time. If you’re still in the work force age you probably have assignments at work to carry out, you have church responsibilities, things you want to do with the family and friends, and personal schedules and goals too.

God has a schedule as well. And we do well to bear in mind His timetable is the the one we ought to focus on first and foremost. Remember what the disciples’ concern was on the Mt of Olives with the risen Lord?  “Lord, will you at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts 1:6).  When the disciples went into Sychar to obain food and Jesus was witnessing to the woman at the well, they returned and urged him to eat but He responded to them in what they thought oddly when He said, “My meat is to do the will of Him that sent Me, and to finish His work.” (Jn.4:34). His agenda and timing is always right !

God’s schedule for you is that you grow to become more like Him with each passing day. Is that high priority to you? Peter wrote a command to us from God when he wound down his Scripture writing career saying, “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” (2Pt.3:18).   Paul wrote, “For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son. . .” (Rom.8:29). His agenda and schedule is for your betterment !   Sometimes we slow that down (unlike our bus), by our sin and sometimes we speed it up (like said bus) also by our sin.  Every moment must be lived empowered by His Spirit and guided by and obedient to the principles of His Word.

When you’re tempted to run ahead of the Lord, wait on Him. When prone to worry, pray to Him and trust He will see you through with His design and schedule in mind.  When discouraged take heart in the Lord that He is in complete control and is wise enough to get us out of any jam or low point in which we find ourselves.   All in all keep chugging along, doing what He says and relying on His strength for the journey. His schedule is a good one and you will get there with Him driving the bus just fine !!
